Sol LeWitt
Sol LeWitt was a pioneering American artist known for his role in the Conceptual and Minimalist art movements. His work, which includes wall drawings, structures, and works on paper, emphasizes the importance of ideas over execution. LeWitt's approach revolutionized contemporary art by delegating the physical creation of his pieces to others based on his precise instructions. His innovative contributions have had a lasting impact on the art world, challenging traditional notions of authorship and creativity.
In 1979, Sol LeWitt initiated a series of artworks comprising 35 painted steel objects, all titled Cube. We conducted conservation treatment on one of these pieces. Over time the artwork had lost its technically precise appearance—crucial to the artist's intention—due to damaged and missing enamel paint layers, as well as an accumulation of dust and grime. By carefully removing these layers and restoring the missing paint, we successfully preserved and revitalized the artist's original vision.
